The last blog

I think this is (probably) the last blog I will write because the semester is ending, and the classes too, finally!!.
So, now I'm going to write about this subject at the University.

I really like this last semester of English classes. Firstable, because we had a better schedule and we don't have too wait so long for the next class. And also because classes were funnier than the other semesters. There was more conversation and interaction between my classmates, we talked about different things, we gave our opinions in some difficult or controversial subjects, or sometimes, we just talked about our likes, hobbies, or just where we live, to relax a little bit the afternoon. Overall, I really like English as a language.

Besides, we had to use and write in this blog as an extra-task, what it seems good to me. At least for me, this activity it has helped me to remember how to write a little more fluent the language, and to learn new words and to know how wonderful is wordreference.com...no more translators online, I swear.

I think I would improve my speaking of English and the only way that I could talk the language better would be living in some country were everybody speaks in English. That's why I'm planning to travel outside the country someday, learn more English and maybe Italian or German.

Outside the English class, sometimes I read some papers in English, I read news or essays about some famous artists and their techniques, things like that. And to know English helps me to understand what they say. Also, when I watch TV or serials, I can understand the dialogues between the characters, so I can be painting and listening the TV (almost the same with music, I can understand the lyrics). On the other hand, I think English is very important in these times, It's kind of a "new door" to get better possibilities and chances in life.

That's all for now =) bye

My future Job

Today I'm going to write about my future job, or a possible future job. Firstable, I think its difficult to say that I'm going to have "that job", because with time things change and I can't be so sure that I will do everything I want right now. I can wish one thing now but maybe tomorrow I'll be better in other one and that's how it goes on.

On the other hand, after getting my degree as an artist at the University I want to get a post-grade, specifically a Magister in arts and possibly outside the country. I want to have a major because it helps you to understand in a better way what are you doing, how to do it better and of course, you can learn more and go deeper and deeper in your area. Also, because having a post-grade is a good thing for the curriculum, you can achieve better jobs and a better pay.

I would like to have a job in a place I can enjoy it. Besides, I would like to teach arts to other people because I think teaching is a very nice activity and you can show your knowledge to students. Moreover, being a teacher or arts must be cool in someway, you can make the students use their imagination.

Some aspects I would consider in the moment I'm going to get a job would be maybe the distance from the place of the job to my house (I can't get a job in La Serena if I'm settle in Santiago). Also, the pay and the hours I'll have to work and to be sure that in the place where I'm going to work there is a nice social milieu with good relations between the people.

If the interviewer make me questions about my personality, strengths or weaknesses at the moment of the job interview I would say that I'm a very patiente person, kind with people and that I'm very eager to start to work.

About money

I think money is important in my life in someway. Because, without money I couldn't study at the university or buy food, pay bills and things like that. But on the other hand, we have a lot of things to enjoy without money, some people say that money doesn't give you happiness and that's true.

Every month I spend my money paying bills, for example: electric lightening, the service of water, internet and sundries of the apartment. Also, I spend it buying food at the supermarket and buying materials for my career at the University (some of them are: oil painting, paintbrushes, canvas, adhesive tape, and a lot of paper). I don't spend so much money in parties, but when I was younger I used to, because I didn't have any bill to pay..hahaha how things change. Well, also because my priorities are diferent now so I try to don't waste my money in things are not important in the moment. Besides, sometimes when there is an interesting movie at the billboard I go to the cinema with my boyfriend. And about shopping, I prefer to earn some money and to go shopping once and for all to get some clothes (and I buy only what I need and what really likes me).

Now I think I'm good at managing my budget, at the begining it was a little difficult and I needed an extra-help from my dad but after sometime I get used to have the accountancy of my expenses, and I learnt what things I could and should buy. Generally, I have some extra money at the end of the month and I save it for my tickets to Europe (someday, I hope).

If I were millionarie, firstable, I would buy top-quality products for painting, cool brushes and good canvas for the rest of my life...I would keep living how I live, maybe buy a car, buy some shoes and accessories. Also, I would give part of my money to my mom, dad, brothers and sisters. I would buy a pretty house near to the coast and I would invite all my family in a big trip..because its a lot of money right?.

If I'm broken and If I had to pawn any of my belongings I would pawn some clothes that I don't used all the time, I would look for things at home that I could pawn to have some extra money.  =)

How green I am?

I remember when I was a child my parents told me all the time and taught me to be careful using water. That's a value I still have about consuming water and the same with the electricity. Besides that, I didn't learn about environmentally friendly practices at school or high school.
Actually, I've learnt to recycle and reuse my papers at the university and this method helps me to spend less money in materials. Other way, at home I have a box with all the sunflower oil wasted, to then, throw it into the ground because 1 litre of the oil we use cooking contaminates 1.000 litres of seawater if you throw it into the dishwasher.
Moreover, I ride my bike to go to the University everyday, unless it's rainy or when I have to carry a lot of stuffs. And in my opinion this is a good way to earn money because the public transportation is more expensive everyday.
About supporting an eco-organization I only have signed for Greenpeace online and I receive e-mails to support them almost every week.
Also, when I lived with my older sister we used to take all the tetrapack to the recycling area at the supermarket. One thing that I would like to do, is to reuse plastic doing stuffs really cool for example, once I saw a couch made of plastic bottles (the inside was made of it, then covered with a pretty and soft fabric), or a lamp made of plastic spoons, both were very pretty!.
I think I have reduce my carbon footprint riding my bike, being careful with the lighting electricity and water at home, and also, in every place I go. I don't take long showers, I don't use chimney or any home heating and air conditioning either. Also, I use the same plastic bottle with my own juice or water and not to buy a new soda.
Finally, I think in our city we don't have environmentally practices because some people don't know about it and when we were younger nobody teach us how to do it. But now, you can see how to recycle at home in TV programs or on the internet and there's a lot of people recycling and making changes in our environment. And actually, at primary and secondary school teachers are more dedicated to teach the kids to be committed with the environment that surround us.

Electoral Campaigns

Actually I’m registered to vote because of the “automatic vote” that has been implanted here in Chile; other way I wouldn’t registered to vote until the presidential elections.

If we talk about electoral campaigns, my opinion is that I really don’t like them. I understand that every politician wants to be known in their cities or country but there are a lot of ways to be known. The thing that I don’t like is to see the city full of propaganda, huge banners and papers thrown along the streets. This is because you can see avenues full of trash, because they don’t recycle anything of the paper used.

I think a politician or a person who wants a public position has to be reliable, kind with people, not racist or classist. Besides, this person should be honest, proactive, and efficient. Finally, I think he/she must have a lot of energy to work for the people according to their needs.

On the other hand, I have never considered to have a public position or to be a politician because I don’t like politics at all, I’m not good at public speech or things like that and I wouldn’t like to have a public image all the time either.

Otherwise, the only thing that I liked about the last electoral campaigns was that the last day of the campaign the politicians said that the streets would be cleaned in just one day, I think they did it. Sadly it all comes in garbage.

About the News

The "Chilean Contemporary Art Fair" known as Ch.ACO has been inaugurated one more time this year. It was inaugurated in September 28th until October 1st.
Where?, Well, It was open at the Estacion Mapocho Cultural Center in the capital, located in Alameda Avenue near to the Universidad de Santiago's subway station, in Santiago de Chile.

The exhibition has a collection of works from thirty galleries. Besides, those works are from different countries. The article, also says that this event is the most important in its kind in all the country... but I'm not agree with that.
Overall, the director of Ch.Aco, called Elodie Fulton, thinks that the most important thing in this exhibition, is that is a massive event considering that the organizers expect more than 50.000 visits during the five days.

In my opinion, I think Ch.ACO is a good way to show art to the people but, what kind of art it shows?...some people think that is contemporary art and others think it's only decorative art and a good oportunity to sell your work in the highest prices (because there you can also buy art works, yes! shopping like in the supermarket!). And talking about prices, the price of the admission was really expensive...I think because of that the organizers were so excited haha.

As I said previously, I'm not agree that this exhibition of art is the most important in the country, I didn't know about it until this year and this is the fourth year since Ch.ACO was inaugurated for the first time. I haven't seen advertising about Ch.ACO or anything like that...And there are a lot of more exhibitions in Santiago and in regions as important as Ch.ACO is considered, and the entrance is totally free, galleries where you can see really good art too.

My best friend

I'm not sure if I can say "My best friend is..." because I have many best friends. There is a group of girls and I have my best friend group of boys, too.
On one hand, I met the girls in my first highschool, called San Ignacio School, when I was in 8 grade and we were classmates until we were juniors. On the other hand, I went to another highschool were I became friend of the boys classmates.

I met the girls when I was exactly 13 years old and the boys when I was 16 years old. Now I'm 23 and I'm glad to be friend of all of them, because until now we keep in touch and considering we've been friends during 10 and 7 years, respectively... How time flies!!.

Also, everytime I go to Viña del Mar I visit them, we hang around, go to parties together, we cook (pizza, barbecue, hamburgers or sushi) and things like that. The good part is that in my past birthdays the both group met each other and now we are all friends.

I think I consider them my best friends because they know me just how I am, they've been almost the half of my life being my very best friends. They have supported me when I have been sad or angry. Besides, I think people we meet during our lifes make some changes in our personality, sometimes they help you to grow up, to have experience, to give some advices and to learn. And my friends have done that.

There are a lot of best memories that I have of them, for example some jokes when we were in highschool or when we started to party. Those were funny days. Also, we went on vacations all together (boys and girls) to Olmué during February of this year just to relax some days.... and now, with my girls best friends we are planning to earn money to visit another friend who lives in Sweeden (she left almost 4 years ago), but I think It will pass a lot of time until we made it, but it's possible, anyway.

My Best Holidays

Hi there again, lovely readers!
Today I'm going to talk about my best holidays...
I remember when I was 21 years old in the year 2010, my dad decided to take a break on summer vacations...he was a little tired of working and needed a rest during February. So, he decided to buy tickets to Mexico for all my brothers and sisters and finally, we got there!, at the Riviera Maya. We also traveled with my brother-in-law Javier, who is a very funny guy.

In spite of the tiring trip, the first day we arrived we had a great day, starting with some tequilas at the hotel...hehehe. Anyway, during those days we went to the Pyramid of Kukulcan, one of the beautiful ruins of the Mayas. Also, those ruins are one of the "Wonders of the World" and when you see them, you realize why they are! Really amazing.
Moreover, we went to X-caret, a theme park very entertainment..And one of the things that I liked more about it, was one place full of guacamayos and flamencos walking everywhere. Besides, we swam in a underground river and cenotes. I have to say that water was amazing, you can see all the fishes swimming by your side.

Well, we did a lot of more things, but if I write them all, this post will be a long story.
I think there are a lot of reasons why this holidays has been the best..First of all, I had a lot of fun with my family, no worries, we ate great good (and a loooot too), we spent time together and we went to pretty places and met very nice people (mexicans are great).

At last, here is a picture of my family and I when we were swimming at the underground river in Xcaret.

A country I would like to visit

It’s hard to decide what country I would like to visit, because there are so many countries that I like. But to talk about one of them I would choose Spain. Why? Because It is a country of beautiful cities full of all kinds of arts and culture.

About this country, I know that Spain has some the more ancient cave paintings in the whole world, there are archeological deposits that were created between 30.000-50.000 years b.C. As well, It has a lot of museums with very important paintings of famous painters around the world.

And I would love to visit the museums, like El Prado museum, El Greco, or the Romanticism National Museum, and there are so many more!. Also, I’d visit the Canary Islands because of its beaches and attractive landscapes. And of course, I’d go to see the amazing Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.

I don’t know If I would study in Spain, but It’s not a bad idea considering all the things related with arts that Spain has. One of the good things is that in almost all the country they speak Spanish, as us, so It wouldn’t be a problem to communicate with people, and that experience can help you anyway.

My first semester experience

If I have to say something about the first semester in my third year studying here, the most interesting thing was that I had a new very special subject called foundry. It has been one of subjects I've liked the most. I learned how to create an sculpture in bronze, which is still in progress, until now. Otherwise, in my free time I spent time with my boyfriend, sometimes cooking, watching serials or going to the cinema.
One of the challenges that I had to face in the past semester was that I had to move to an apartment by myself and live alone for first time in my life, that was a problem for me because, who was going to cook everyday?, I had to be worried about paying all the bills, do the laundry, clean up the apartment, go to the supermarket and of course, cook. Anyway, I think I'm doing really fine and I get used to it.
When the semester finished I went to see my family to Viña del Mar during two weeks, a lot of time to rest and spend time with my family and friends.

Introducing myself

My name is Rosa Santibáñez, I'm 23 years old and I'm from Viña del Mar. In this moment I'm studying Arts at the University of Chile, so because of that I had to move to Santiago. During this three years living in the capital I have to say that I don't like Santiago so much but when I have free time I try to do different things like going to the cinema, painting, spending time with my boyfriend and on weekends I visit my family in Viña del Mar.

Also, I spend a lot of time doing homework for my subjects at the university. I have a painting subject so I have to paint a lot, but at least I like it.

About my experience with English, I have been learning English since I was a child, first at primary school, then high school and when I was sophomore I decided to be an exchange student and I went to Eugene, a city located in Oregon, USA. That was a great experience, but sadly seven years have past since I traveled and I have forgotten a little bit the language and pronunciation.

I think that's it for the moment. =)

Blogging Experience

In this last post I'm going to talk about my blogging experience. First of all, before this blog I never had a blog before because I didn't like it at all. I thought that it was boring and never came to my attention.

Anyway, according to the question about this post I have to say that I’ve been enjoying some activities we’ve done during this semester because writing post can make me remember some rules of the language. So, responding to the other question the blogging helped me to improve more my english.

On the other hand, I didn’t like it because sometimes I had too much work to do for my others subjects, I didn’t have enough time and I had to came to these classes to don’t fail the English class. Also, because I know about this language a little bit more than what classes are so I got bored sometimes.

In my opinion, one of the good things or advantages of blogging in classes is that you don’t have to do it at home but only if you assist to class, otherwise, you have to do it in your house anyway. And that last would be a disadvantage, I think.

And finally, I got more than 200 words!

A country that I would like to visit...

A country that I would like to visit It would be Italy because I think it's a beautiful country with a lot of places and pretty cities full of culture and arts.
About this country, I know that is located in south-central Europe, Its borders with France, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia. In the map It looks like a boot and in ancient times, Rome was the capital of the Roman Empire. Besides, Rome is the capital of Italy until now.
It has beautiful cities like Venecia, Rome, Milan or Florence. This last, is famous for its history and considered the place where the renaissance was born.
I would like to visit Italy because it has a lot of museums, great architecture and visual arts and I'd love to study some post-grade in this country related with arts and painting.

The picture that I included in this post is a picture of a gondola of Venecia. One of the most interest things about Venecia is that It was built on an archipelago. The gondola is a tipical boat where the tourists take a ride on this boats across all the city. Also, the gondolas are used as public transportation in the Grand Canal. And this city is one of the most important for the tourist for its arts and architecture.

A photography that I like

I took this photography the last Friday when my sister Estefanía came to visit me from Viña del Mar. She stayed two days at my house and she came with my little niece called Victoria, I was so happy to have them in my house.

The baby in the picture is my niece Victoria, she was born on March 19th. so she is only three months old.
Victoria doesn't speak yet but since two weeks she started to smile often.

On Friday morning I woke up and I saw her quiet in her bed and she started to laugh and smiling at me. It was a precise moment to take a picture of her before coming to the university.

I chose this picture because I really like It, first because I love my niece Victoria very much, I think she's very cute and tender baby (she is very quiet and doesn't cry at all). Also because It can make you smile anytime time you see it. =)

Webquest

PART 1

1. What’s your carbon footprint?

My carbon footprint is
6.91 metric tons per year.

2. What’s the average carbon footprint of a person?

The average carbon footprint of a person in Chile is
3.87 metric tons per year.

PART 2

1. Hand washing dishes can use up to 50 % more of water than   using an efficient dishwasher.

2. Only about 9 % of global energy comes from renewables.

3. True or false? Appliances that are turned off don’t use any electricity.
FALSE.

4. Can you make paper out of hemp?
Yes, I can.

PART 3 - VIDEO

In my opinion 3 good tips to recycle are:
1. Re-use carry bags.
2. Use double bag for food and tie them very well if they have smelly waste.
3. Try to minimize the waste you create by unpacking producing product by minimal packing.

OPINION

I think by doing this activity you can realize how much increases the pollution in the cities. But to face this global problem you can recycle in your house using some tips of recycling from the video that we saw.

MY FAVORITE ANIMAL

I like animals of all kind, but my favorite animal is the dog. Since I was a child I had 4 dogs and I used to play with them all the time. Then, when I was 17 my dad gave me as my birthday's present a maltese puppy. It was a female so I called her Sabrina.

When she was a puppy she had white hair with brown ears and with the time, she changed her long hair to completely white. Her eyes are black, and her skin is very pink. Another characteristic is her curved tail over her back. She is a small dog, very playful but no so obedient because she wants to play frequently and she lives with me in an apartment.

Sabrina eats food for dogs twice at day (in the morning and then, in the evening). She wakes up early in the morning, to drink some water and start to play and often she tries to wake me up barking and playing on the bed. After she gets tired she usually takes a nap.

I love this little dog because she's so amused and she makes me happy when I'm sad. She a perfect company.

About Questions..

Firstly, one of the question that I chose is  "What is my opinion about recycling?". I think that recycling is a very good way to recover material that have already been used and that you're going to throw to the garbage...You can use them again. Also, I agree with recycling because people can reduce garbage around the world, and some way this can stop the pollution around us.

What is my opinion about Chileans politicians?. Personally, I don't like politicians at all. I think politicians lie to people. First, they make promises and then, they forget them. Politicians always look for their own benefits and not the welfare of the society.

What's my opinion about women on the military?...In my opinion, I think that women clearly have the rights to be part of the army. If some woman has the encouragement to be part of it, she should do it!..She is probably as capable as a man to be in the army.

What is my opinion about violence on television?. I absolutely disagree with violence on T.V, because many children watch TV almost all day. Besides, violence can affect their behaviour. they turn into more violence person and we need better people in this world.

What is my opinion about owning an exotic pet?. I disagree with owning and exotic pet. In general, animals need to live in their own and natural environment because they have to be part of the life cycle. Either, they can evolve through the pass of years and that's part of life in this world. Having exotic pet it produces more traffic of animal.

My favorite piece of Technology

It's hard to define what's my favorite piece of technology, because actually we are a society that includes them in our lifes. Cell-phones, music players, computers, laptops and now I-phones. This last one it has everything I told before, amazing!, isn't it?.
Of those electronic things, I'd choose the music player (or Mp3). I bought my first music player in the year 2005, it was a blue Ipod mini, one of the first Ipods that Apple created. After some months I lend it to my brother and, saddy, he broke it.. So I bought a new and cheaper mp3 this time. Now, I use it almost all the time, when I go home or came here (to the faculty), when I paint, draw, or when i'm surfing on internet.
I like it very much because you can hear the music that you like anytime you want to. And you don't have to listen music you dislike (to me that music it would be reggaeton, that sounds all the time in every radio you turn on). Also, i like the music player because it can make my day more active starting in the morning with some faster music and it can change my humor if i'm angry or sad. It brings me ideas or thoughts while i'm listening it and that can help me to solve homework related with an idea.

Without it, I think my live would be more boring, but otherwise, I'd have more thoughts and ideas all the time, and that's not bad. Maybe, I would have time to read books on the bus or subway. Finally, I can do those things, but sometimes i prefer to relax before I arrive to the University.

Here there's a picture of a Mp3 Player:

About Music

During the day, I have to ride the bus and the subway to go to the University. In this place I have to paint, draw, and also I have to modeling things, so the most part of my time I'm pretty quiet doing my job and to make those moments a little more fun I listen music.
I like a lot of kinds of music. In one hand i like to listen to rock music, progressive rock, a little of metal.
Some of this bands are Queen, Toto, Journey, Simply Red, Dave Mathews Band, Pink Floyd, Rush, Frost, and of the last kind of music that I talk about, I like Iron Maiden and Helloween.
On the other hand, I like very much the "new chilean latinoamerican music", bands like Congreso, Inti-Illimani and Santiago del Nuevo Extremo.

If I have to choose my favorite band it would be, clearly, Pink Floyd. They started to play progressive rock in the 1970's, and they were one of the first band playing that kind of music. I like this band because while you hear it you can create an atmosphere and that's one of the principal idea that they have. Also, because the lyrics of the songs really makes sense to me.

By the way, the tittle of my blog "a perfect sense" is my favorite song of Roger Waters, the bassist of Pink Floyd. It takes about problems of society, war and that finally, it all makes perfect sense expressed in money.

Here I leave a video of this great song:

Autobiography

My full name is Rosa Santibáñez Núñez. I'm 23 years old and I was born in Viña del Mar city. My family is pretty big, besides my parents I have three brothers and three sisters.
When I was child I lived in Quintero city until I was 11 years old, then we moved to Viña del Mar and I studied at San Ignacio's High School. After four years living there, I decided to be an exchange student and I went to live to Eugene, in the state of Oregon at the U.S.A.
During the time I was living in Eugene, I lived with an american family, they were a very small family, just my parents (their names are Kelli and Mike), two dogs and two cats. In our free time we liked go to the cinema, watch movies at home eating pizza or spend time with some friends. Talking about friends, I had two very good friends, one of them was Bua, she was a very nice girl from Thailand and my other friends was Murat, a funny guy from Germany (he has lived all his life in Germany but he was born in Turkia). I spent a lot of time with them because they lived in the same house!.
But everything isn't only entertainment, I had to go to High School too, its name was Willamette High School, a little bit different than chilean schools because there you can choose all your subjects, so if you don't like maths you can choose everything else you want. One of the other good things was that the school had a lot of king of art's classes and I had classes of "ceramic and sculpture", "general crafts" and "draw 1", american story and english III.
When I get back I finished school at SSCC of Viña del Mar. Then study psychology at University of Valparaiso, but i didn't like it, so I decided to study arts and here I am, finally.
